Legal status varies widely. Mexico permits prescription CBD; Brazil requires ANVISA registration; Argentina has limited medical use; most Central American and Caribbean countries restrict or ban it. Even where legal, hemp/cannabis products are often confiscated at customs without proper paperwork. Don't risk it without a destination-specific prescription.

Treat as illegal across Asia unless you have specific destination paperwork. Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines: classified the same as cannabis — possession can mean years in prison. Japan: only allows CBD products with 0.0% THC and no plant material; even trace THC has led to arrests. Hong Kong: CBD reclassified as a dangerous drug in 2023 — possession up to 7 years. South Korea: prescription medical only. China: banned outside specific cosmetics. Thailand: legal status is unstable since 2025 reclassification — verify before flying.

Australia: low-dose CBD (≤150 mg/day) was rescheduled to OTC Schedule 3 in 2021 but no product has yet been approved for sale — in practice still prescription-only Schedule 4. Travel with a valid Australian prescription + the original packaging, declare on arrival. New Zealand: prescription-only Schedule 4. Pacific Islands: generally prohibited — do not bring.
