Trained service DOGS fly free in cabin at the handler's feet, protected under the Air Carrier Access Act. Since the 2021 DOT rule change, only dogs are recognized (no cats, miniature horses, etc.). Must submit the DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form 48 hours before flying. No carrier required, but dog must be leashed/harnessed and behave appropriately.

Acceptance is far less consistent than US / EU. Japan, Korea: established service-dog certification accepted at major airlines (JAL, ANA, Korean). Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia: assistance dogs increasingly accepted but bring extensive documentation + advance notice (72 hr). India + China + Vietnam: very limited acceptance — confirm with airline before booking. NEVER 'emotional support animal' — only formally trained / certified service animals.
